Michele Eliason, Ph.D., and her team of Social Justice Pedagogy faculty recently published a book on their research, which was funded by a mini-grant from the SF BUILD program at San Francisco State University. The book is titled Social Justice Pedagogy Plus: Transforming undergraduate research methods courses, and is self-published through Amazon.

The book contains the results from over a year of investigation, implementation, and evaluation of pedagogical approaches to improve instruction of research methods courses. Traditionally, these courses can trigger underperformance in historically underrepresented students so the researchers have looked at how these courses can be updated. In Social Justice Pedagogy Plus, critical theories, democratic and inclusive strategies, stereotype threat and other academic success techniques are blended to guide instructors in creating a welcoming and inclusive classroom that focuses on student success.
